The concept for Familialive.com has developed over several years. The conventional application of social networking websites is based on each individual having their own place to post their photos, videos, comments and other content. The type of content permitted varies from one service to another. In most cases, members can share their personal page of content with other site members that they add to their friends list, or they can share it with the public. However, they are usually limited in the amount of places given to post their content and in the amount of choices of how they can share their content. We recognized the need for a group of people, such as a family, or a special interest group, to have their own private place(s) on the internet, in which all their group members can post photos, videos and other content and share it amongst the group with complete privacy. The groups should be able to consist of any people that the group creator would like to include. Familialive.com offers this in a new way of social networking with “Live Groups”. Live Groups are places on the Internet where members can meet Live, view, display and share photos, videos, sounds, documents and audible, visual comments that they can record with their microphone and webcam. Group members can also join the Private Group Video Chat which allows them to see and hear each other Live, using their webcam and microphone. So all members of the group can view the same content, add their own content and share files, while talking with and seeing each other Live! Each member of Familialive.com can create several Live Groups. Members have the option to make their Live Groups private or public. If a Private Live Group is created by a member, that member is the Group Administrator and has complete control as to who can view, join and post content to the Live Group. Each Private Live Group can be assigned a different list of authorized members, called a “Privacy Group” in the members Privacy Settings. Familialive.com members can also create Private and Public Albums to store content that will be displayed in their Live Groups. They can assign “Privacy Groups” of authorized members to each album, which will grant access to the contents of that album only to the “Privacy Group” that is assigned to it. The types of Albums are Photo Albums, Video Albums, Sounds Albums and Files Albums. Members can control the contents of their albums for displaying in Live Groups and other parts of the website, such as on the member’s Personal Profile, in a Live Event, in a Live Places posting and other site postings.
